Fulham legend confident of the club’s chances of automatic promotion

Fulham legend Tony Gale is confident of the Cottagers’ prospects of claiming a top-two spot in the Championship this term. The west London side have responded impressively after their relegation from the Premier League last season and they are currently five points adrift of second-placed Leeds United with 10 games to play.

In an interview covered by Goal.com, Gale said that the Cottagers still have a strong chance of sealing automatic promotion, particularly with the unpredictable nature of the Championship, he told: “West Brom had a wobble at the weekend, losing at home to Wigan, so there’s everything to play for. We’ve [Fulham] got so many games against the teams around us, so they’ll all be six-pointers.

We’re better in the bigger games, I would say, because teams come at us a bit more, rather than sitting back. I think we can be confident going into the business end of the campaign. Everybody is going to be giving it their all in these last 10 games, but keeping your head is the biggest thing, especially when you’re going into the high octane atmospheres.”

The Cottagers had come within goal difference off Leeds United last month but they have since succumbed to a couple of winless matches which has benefited the Yorkshire outfit. Still, there are just six points adrift of West Brom at the top of the standings and they can reduce the deficit with games to come against both the Baggies and Leeds.
Fulham are scheduled to host Bristol City at Craven Cottage this weekend and they can be fancied for a victory with their strong home record over the course of the campaign. The Capital outfit have averaged two points per game at home this season and they have won 12 of the 19 matches. Bristol picked up a 2-1 win during the reverse fixture.
